Let us set the background here, Nintendo just recently launch the new Super Mario Land 3D game. The game launches on the 3DS game machine. Mario does his thing again in terms of stomping on turtles, dodging man eating plants and eating all sorts of mushrooms along the way.
Mario at times will wear a raccoon-like "Tanooki suit" which lets him float in the air and swat this colorful host of bad guys with a tail.
PETA, not surprisingly is up in arms just before the launch of the new 3DS game, pointing fingers at Mario for wearing the raccoon fur.
Couple of points we need to make about the game.
- It is rated E for everyone
- He is a cartoon character
- He gains the suite by hitting a floating block and jumping on a mushroom that allows him to wear the suit.
PETA has a new "Mario Kills Tanooki" website which in real life the Tanooki dog is often skinned alive for their fur. So it is saying to children that if it okay for Mario to wear fur then you can wear fur too.
Wow! PETA really, I can understand were you are coming from with regards to the Tanooki dogs being skinned alive for their fur. But to say a fake 2D cartoon character that runs into a mushroom and the suit is placed on him, is in no way, shape or form killing an Innocent animal.
