I recently found this great infograph on Computer Video Game Addiction online.
Some interesting stats from the infograph.
- 72% of US citizens between the ages of 6 and 44 play games on average for 18 hours a week.
- 4% of US citizens between the ages of 6 and 44 are chronic gamers average over 50 hours a week.
- According to as study 8.5% of people between the age of 8 to 18 are clinically addicted to video games.
Really, almost half of the people who has ever played World of Warcraft becomes addicted, I find that a bit high. Also calling World of Warcraft the cocaine of games a bit overboard in my opinion.
So what constitutes a gaming addiction? below has you answer.
- Craving to go back and make up for lost time. Or feeling that if you return to the game you will feel better.
- Obsessing about the game whether it is day dream or in your sleep.
- Psychological symptoms like: depression, anxiety, relief, etc.
- Physical symptoms like: nausea, restlessness, colds, etc.
- Social effects like: anger, crying, lack of responsibility, etc.
