Computer Video Game Addicition Infograph

I recently found this great infograph on Computer Video Game Addiction online.

Some interesting stats from the infograph.

  • 72% of US citizens between the ages of 6 and 44 play games on average for 18 hours a week.
  • 4% of US citizens between the ages of 6 and 44 are chronic gamers average over 50 hours a week.
  • According to as study 8.5% of people between the age of 8 to 18 are clinically addicted to video games.
Some interesting comments made about World of Warcraft which I don't really agree with. "One doctor claims 40% of World of Warcraft Players are addicted. A Swedish youth organization called World of Warcraft the cocaine of games."

Really, almost half of the people who has ever played World of Warcraft becomes addicted, I find that a bit high. Also calling World of Warcraft the cocaine of games a bit overboard in my opinion.

So what constitutes a gaming addiction? below has you answer.

  • Craving to go back and make up for lost time. Or feeling that if you return to the game you will feel better.
  • Obsessing about the game whether it is day dream or in your sleep.
  • Psychological symptoms like: depression, anxiety, relief, etc.
  • Physical symptoms like: nausea, restlessness, colds, etc.
  • Social effects like: anger, crying, lack of responsibility, etc.
You be the judge if you are someone you know has these problems look at getting some expert help because with any kind of addiction this can destroy your life and is it really worth it over a game?
